SFPA Publishes Updated Fisheries Information Notice on Access and Technical Measures for Irish Fishing Vessels in UK Waters

The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) has published an updated Fisheries Information Notice (FIN) for Irish fishing vessel owners and masters on access and technical measures in United Kingdom (UK) waters. The FIN can be accessed on the SFPA website or by clicking on the following link: Access & Technical Measures for Irish Fishing Vessels in UK Waters

Irish fishing vessels may only fish in UK waters with a valid UK foreign vessel licence (issued by the UK Single Issuing Authority) and an access authorisation (issued by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine). It is the responsibility of Irish vessel masters and owners to ensure that they comply with their licence conditions and UK fisheries legislation, in addition to applicable Irish and European regulations, when fishing in UK waters.

The FIN provides an overview of the requirements and useful links. Irish vessel masters and owners that intend to fish in UK waters should review the FIN and familiarise themselves with their obligations.

The SFPA is committed to supporting compliance with both new and existing legislation and is available to provide further guidance, if required.

About the SFPA

The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) is the independent statutory body responsible for the regulation of the sea-fisheries and the sea-food production sectors. It promotes compliance with the EU Common Fisheries Policy, sea-fisheries law and food safety law relating to fish and fish products, verifies compliance and, where necessary, enforces it. Its mandate covers all fishing vessels operating within Ireland’s 200-mile limit, over 2,000 Irish registered fishing vessels wherever they operate, and all seafood produced in Ireland’s seafood processing companies. The SFPA operates through a network of regional port offices situated at Ireland’s main fishery harbours.
