Weighing of Fishery Products Guidelines

The Control Regulation allows for the weighing of fishery products at the place of landing, onboard a permitted fishing vessel or after transport.
The EU Commission has approved an Irish Control Plan for the weighing of fishery products after transport to a permitted premises in Ireland (Article 61 (1) of Council Regulation EC 1224/2009).
The EU Commission approved the sampling plans for weighing of landings of fishery products landed into Ireland (Art 60 (1) of Council Regulation EC 1224/2009) and weighing of landings of fishery products landed into Ireland which have been weighed onboard a permitted fishing vessel.
The SFPA wishes to provide Industry with information that will help to manage and comply with the weighing of fisheries products.

Control Plan Article 61(1) of Council Regulation 1224/2009 - EFFECTIVE from 01st Jan 2023

The control plan allows for Ireland’s fisheries sector to benefit from a derogation under regulation Article 61 of Control Regulation 1224/2009, which will provide an exemption from weighing on landing for 95% of pelagic landings and a proportion of demersal fish landings.  Should operators wish to avail of the derogation, the Control Plan facilitates for the weighing of the vast majority of fish after road transport in permitted establishments, unless directed otherwise at landing by a Sea-Fisheries Protection Officer of the SFPA.

Application Form for Permit to Weigh After Transport

This application form is for operators seeking a permit to weigh fishery products after transport from place of landing which is derogated for in Council Regulation (EC) No 1224/2009, Article 61 (1). A Weigh Permit only applies to the weighing of fishery products being landed and transported within the Republic of Ireland.

Application Form for Approval for Weighing Systems to Weigh on Landing

This application form is for operators seeking approval for weighing equipment or systems in line with Regulation 12(1) of S.I. 54/2016 – Sea Fisheries (Community Control System) Regulations 2016 and Article 60(1) of (EC) 1224/2009. Under these Regulations, an operator shall not use any equipment or system for weighing a fishery product unless it is approved by the Legal Metrology Service and the SFPA and complies with Article 72 of (EU) 404/2011.
