Recruitment
Our goal is to attract and develop a diverse group of people with the skills and motivation to deliver excellence. We use the Capability Framework recruitment model to assess candidates skills, behaviours and potential across various roles and grades. The Capability Framework focuses on a person-centred approach, exploring candidate’s values and motivations to foster an innovative, professional, and agile Public Service. Members of our shortlisting and interview boards receive training in capability-based recruitment techniques. We ensure that interview panels are gender inclusive, as far as possible.
The SFPA engages Conscia Talent to facilitate some of our recruitment competitions. All recruitment for the SFPA is carried out in line with the Codes of Practice for Appointment to Positions in the Civil Service and Public service prepared by the CPSA - Commission for Public Service Appointments (CPSA).
All open competitions in the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority are advertised on our website and through Public Jobs.ie
Equal Opportunities
The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to maintaining a workplace environment with equal treatment & equality of opportunity for existing and potential employees. The Authority adheres to practices and policies for recruitment, employment, training and promotion that are free from barriers that directly or indirectly discriminate against any individual. All appointments and promotions are made on the basis of performance and ability as demonstrated through our transparent recruitment process.
Candidates with Disabilities – Reasonable Accommodations for the Selection Process
The SFPA attracts candidates from all sectors of society, and we ensure routes to career opportunities are accessible to all who are interested. We are committed to equality of opportunity for all candidates.
If you have a disability or need reasonable accommodations made during the selection process, we strongly encourage you to share this with us so that we can ensure you get the support you need. Please note, this relates only to the selection process (e.g. online tests, interviews, etc.) and not workplace accommodations.
Reasonable accommodation in our selection process refers to adjustments and practical changes which would enable a disabled candidate to have an equal opportunity for our competitions. Examples of adjustments we provide include the use of assistive technology, extra time, scribes and/or readers or a range of other accommodations. Please be assured that having a disability or requiring adjustments will not impact on your progress in the selection process; you will not be at a disadvantage if you disclose your disability or requirements to us. Your disability and/or adjustments will be kept entirely confidential.
Should you be successful, the disclosure of a disability for this stage of the process will not be passed onto the hiring manager unless you request that we do so.
If you have indicated on your application/profile that you require reasonable accommodations, you should send a copy of your psychologist/medical report directly to the relevant person responsible for the competition as identified in the competition handbook. You are required to include a copy of your medical/psychologist report before the closing date of the competition.
The purpose of the report is to provide the recruiter with information to act as a basis for determining reasonable accommodations, where appropriate. The information within these reports that is useful for us to see includes the outcome of any diagnostic tests conducted by your psychologist/doctor, and their summary of recommendations in relation to your requirements. You may redact (block out) parts of medical reports/psychologist’s reports that you feel are sensitive or unnecessary for the decision to make reasonable adjustments.
Dignity in the workplace
The SFPA is committed to working together to maintain a workplace environment that encourages and supports the right to dignity at work. All who work for the SFPA are expected to respect the right of each individual to dignity in their working life. All colleagues will be treated equally and respected for their individuality and diversity.
We accept that all staff are entitled to be treated with respect and that the work environment is free from intimidation/bullying, harassment and sexual harassment from staff members and from clients, customers or other business contacts.
